Raul The Giant

I created this book to honor my friend Raul Ugalde. He was born in 1980 and passed away in 2010. I wrote and illustrated this book in the months following his passing, as a way to process my grief. He was such a large presence in the lives of those who loved him. He was a giant.

I printed out a small number of copies for friends and his family. In the years since, I’ve repeatedly heard from friends who read their copy of the book to their kids, and their kids love it. This prompted me to revise, clean up and translate this book into Spanish.

I hope this book will connect with people and possibly offer a path to processing grief and the concept of loss.
